News from CHESSA:
As of 01 January 2012, the Glicko system is used for the calculation of new ratings. However, the initial RD values for players (especially new players entering the system) were to high. This resulted in distorted ratings (e.g. abnormal rating gains and losses). In order to correct the ratings, the following will apply:
- The adjustment of ratings will only affect players who have played at least one rated game since 01 January 2012.
- The current RD values of ALL players have been halved.
- The adjustments will take effect on Sunday 18 March 2012 (midnight). - The updated online database and ratings list will then be uploaded and ready to be viewed/downloaded by 8am on Monday 19 March 2012.
- All tournaments received since Wednesday 14 March 2012 and up to (and including) Sunday 18 March 2012 will only be processed/rated on Monday 19 March 2012.

Junior Closed: The ratings of participants will be updated accordingly and the new lists will be published on Monday 19 March 2012.

The operations of Kasparov Chess Foundation Africa will be officially launched at a Gala dinner on Friday 23rd March at the Sandton Sun Hotel. The event will be held in conjunction with the the South African Sports and Arts Hall of Fame and will feature a number of South African sporting stars. Congratulations to the following SAJCC 2011 individual performers: Theuns Botha (3rd, boys u/18), Marcelle Sammons (6th, girls u/14), Nina Marais (1st, girls u/10) and Tshepang Tlale (4th boys u/16). Tshepang also received the trophy for best player in SA for winning the u/20 women Africa Championship in 2011. Well done!

High School Saddles tournament results available
Destinata Women's day chess tournament registration form (English/Afrikaans) added to Calender. This 90/90 tournament wil be held on 6 and 9 August and will also serve as the qualifier to determine the Sedibeng representative for the SA Closed.

The SA Closed will be held in Cape Town during November 2011. A representative of each union will participate in the B or C sections. All High School league organisers: please read the league document and fax the completed form back before May 4.

The average TP of players with less than 5 TP's, will be calculated as the sum of all his/her TP's divided by 5.
